Dr.
James Leonard is the Director of Musculoskeletal and
Myofascial Pain Management at the Alliance Institute
for Integrative Medicine. Dr. Leonard received his M.D.
from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
He completed his internship and residency in orthopaedic
surgery at U.C. College of Medicine and associated hospitals,
and went immediately into private practice. During his
eighteen years as an orthopaedic surgeon he became frustrated
with western medicine's apparent inability to adequately
treat and manage chronic and myofascial pain. |
Dr.
Leonard began using trigger point injections and simple acupuncture
to this end, attended the HMI/UCLA medical acupuncture program
between November 1997 and May 1999, and is now on the faculty
of this program. In June of 2000 he took a 3-year sabbatical
from orthopaedic surgery to further study, teach, and practice
medical acupuncture on a full-time basis. In October of 2003,
he returned to the full time practice of orthopaedic surgery
with a holistic and integrative mindset. He is board certified
in orthopaedic surgery and pain management, and board eligible
in medical acupuncture.
